First Full Day of Project - Aly Gialamas

I don't know how this whole blogging thing goes but I thought I'd start by giving some background info about my project? OKAYYYY YAY here goes nothing! My project is being spent between the lower and upper campuses of Hawken. Mondays - Wednesdays I will spend the day down at the lower school in Miss Marcy's Preschool class while my Thursdays and Fridays will be spent at the upper school working with Nan Wiggins, the graphic design artist of Hawken. My project is, in a way, tailored specifically to my interest in children and childhood development and my interest in graphic design. These two aspects will hopefully combine to create a comprehensive children's cookbook that can be used by future Hawken families.

I spent my first day of project taking an AP exam, so today was my first real day on project. I arrived at the lower school at 8:00 this morning, and met parents as the children trickled in until around 8:45. I spent most of my day playing with the kids, getting to know them and gaining their approval for these next few weeks. I spent time drawing pictures, reading picture books, and opening bananas for snack time. The pace of a preschool classroom is a welcome break from the past few weeks of high school. I also got the chance to observe their P.E. class, where they rode bikes around a gym and jumped around on some wrestling mats. The kids are great, and the teachers have all been very kind and helpful, I look forward to tomorrow, my last day with the kids this week, and to thursday, my first day with Mrs. Wiggins.

YAY SENIOR PROJECTS!!!!! 2011 hollerr! (are we allowed to do things like this?? oh well...)

  1. I'm so jealous you get to play with kids! Speaking of gym classes and bikes, while I was walking around the track at the JCC in between classes kids from the preschool were having a pe class/play time and one of the kids ran over the other with a bike. I was amazed that neither of them cried, but it was hilarious and adorable!
