The day before, I choose presents from the donation room in the basement of the hospital. She received a bunch of small items, and two bigger ones. The one from the hospital was a light brite (which I think is awesome), and an organization that had worked with her for a while gave her a Razor scooter! I also wrapped most of her gifts (though I must add that the only wrapping paper the hospital had was infuriatingly thin). The volunteers also made her a birthday card from all of us.
When I came in on the day of her birthday, her room was already decorated with streamers and a banner, and several large balloons.
At 11 am on her birthday, most of the division gathered outside her room, sang happy birthday and watched her open her gifts. I had never seen a little girl so happy! Angela and I also brought in the game cart, and we had a wii-bowling party in her room! The girl scored 3 strikes in a row, and was jumping up and down with excitement. She plans to have a real bowling party when she gets out of the hospital. It was nice to give her a memorable birthday, even if it had to be in the hospital.
