Anyways, the first 2 days of project were pretty laid back. I spend a significant amount of time with a 1 year old boy, who has been with his grandmother in the hospital for quite some time now, so his grandmother appreciates any time to herself she can get. He is just learning to walk, and wants to go everywhere and do everything so he needs a lot of attention! The most difficult part about watching him is making sure his IV pole is not too far away, or twisted around anything. Because the IV line is directly connected into him, it would be both dangerous and painful to have too much tension on it.
I think the most important thing to keep in mind about these kids is that, although they must be very very ill in order to have been admitted to the hospital, they're still just kids, and want to do whatever kids their age like to do. For example, the one year old boy (from above), likes to play with trains, a typical activity for a one year old.
